Materuni Waterfall & Coffee Tour

Materuni is the home of the Chagga tribal people which is still an authentic tribal village living in the past. It is just 15 km away from the town of Moshi and is the last stop before Kilimanjaro National Park.
Here you can produce your own cup of coffee from the beans bought directly from the farm. The local Chagga people will teach you what makes a good cup of coffee. From the village, a small hike will take you to Materuni waterfall which has a height of 80 meters.
You’ll be picked up in Moshi by one of our tour guides in the morning who will drive you to the Materuni Village. After arriving at the village office, you’ll have to register after which your trip will begin.
Your first stop will be a gorgeous waterfall that is 80 meters high. The bottom of waterfall is a pool which entices tourists for a refreshing swim and bath, so don’t forget to bring in your swim wears.
Enjoy the scenery to the fullest after which you’ll be taken back to Materuni village where you’ll be served with an authentic Chagga lunch. You’ll also get a chance to taste a local beer made from banana.
You’re mistaken if you think that’s all. The coffee plantation experience of this place is unavoidable. At the farm you’ll experience how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted, and further processed to make it market-ready. You can help with grinding of the coffee which is often times accompanied by Chagga songs and dance moves. It is a fun way to experience local culture. Before you say goodbye and return in the afternoon to Moshi, you can savour the coffee you made and appreciate the views of the surrounding rainforest.
